Back from #HIMSS17: A Recap

More than a mile of exhibits greeted 40,000 individuals at HIMSS17 on February 19-23 in Orlando, Fla. In the three days the exhibit hall was opened, Netsmart welcomed attendees from across the globe to learn more about how we integrate care across communities with conversations focusing around population health, care coordination and interoperability. Guest had the opportunity to participate in Netsmart demonstrations and chat with associates about how Netsmart’s solutions can meet their ever changing needs.

Each year, the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase provides examples of the exchange and use of data through interoperability profiles and standards with live demonstrations featuring products currently available in healthcare.

Netsmart, along with eClinicalWorks, Epic, Meditech, NextGen, and Surescripts, presented the only scenario in the showcase that addressed behavioral health and substance abuse treatment in coordination with the rest of healthcare.  The “Accountable Care: Opioid Management” presentation focused on Mary, a fictional patient who was dependent on opioids. Our scenario showed how care providers can utilize their systems to get better visibility into Mary’s conditions thanks to their ability to communicate with each other and treat the whole person.  This interoperability allows doctors to make the best decisions in real time about Mary’s condition while keeping her information confidential.

Dr. Wes Williams, VP and CIO of Mental Health of Denver presented “Retrieving Critical Information from Narrative Data in Electronic Behavioral Health Record” in the InterSystems booth where he focused on transforming narrative text into data and insight. Netsmart currently works closely with InterSystems to take concepts and data that are inside records and present it in different ways that allow us to see the story in a variety of formats to allow for analysis and understanding of unstructured data.

During HIMSS, Netsmart was presented with three awards from Black Book Polls for our excellence in behavioral health and post-acute care. We were awarded the 2016 Black Book Highest Client Satisfaction in Behavioral Health EHR, #1 ranked Behavioral Health, Technology Solutions and #1 ranked Post-acute Care, Community Solutions. We think we have a pretty great team too!
